DINOSAUR EXCAVATION
BC’s first (and western Canada’s oldest) accumulation
of dinosaur skeletal material was discovered in a canyon
near Tumbler Ridge in
2002. Our palaeontologists have spent much of the
summers of 2003 and 2004 in a canyon excavating it.
170 bones have been removed to the Peace Region Palaeontology
Research Centre in Tumbler Ridge where they await preparation
and description.

FOOTPRINTS
Three TRMF footprint sites have been opened to the public
for guided tours. Unique
nocturnal lantern tours lead to a riverside site that
includes dinosaur
skin impressions, while another site has a large
number of deep footprints, including rare dewclaw impressions,
beside a beautiful
creek with a swimming
hole.
Call the Visitor Info Centre at 250 242 3123 for reservations.
EXHIBITS
The Tumbler Ridge Community Centre hosts a large number of displays on the history of the Peace Region, a Sports Hall of Fame, a Monkman exhibit focussing on the heroic attempts in the 1930s to build the Monkman Pass Highway, a feature on Coal Mining in the Tumbler Ridge area, and the new exhibit on the History of Tumbler Ridge. Call 250 242 4246 for an update on what is on display. Dinosaur and other fossil exhibits are to be found at the Dinosaur Discovery Gallery in the Industrial Park just down the road from Day’s Inn.
